Germany-based tourism conglomerate TUI Group and Brazilian aerospace manufacturer Embraer this week signed a deal to give TUI’s airline division access to Embraer’s pool programme of repair services and component exchanges.

The contract means TUI’s fleet of Embraer E195-E2s can avail of the pool program which Embraer offers to around 50 airlines. Early next year, TUI will take three E195-E2s on lease from Dublin-based AerCap.

Geert Somers, engineering and maintenance director at TUI Airline, said the agreement “ensures a high component availability and access to a comprehensive support and services package” and would enable the airline to maintain standards for passengers.

Danielle Vardaro, Embraer vice-president of worldwide customer support and aftermarket sales, said the contract meant “TUI will count on the OEM’s [original equipment manufacturer] expertise to support its E2 fleet”.

According to a statement by Embraer, the pool programme means airlines can “minimise their upfront investment in high-value repairable inventories and resources, while taking advantage of Embraer’s technical expertise and vast repair service provider network for components”.

TUI, which describes itself as “one of the world’s leading tourism groups”, runs five airlines with around 150 aircraft, as well as over 400 hotels and 16 cruise liners.
