UK CAA lines up meetings with Scottish aviation industry

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has announced a series of meetings with the aviation industry in Scotland, the most northerly part of the UK.

The two days of meetings, which will take place during the week starting May 15,  are part of the UK regulator’s “engagement with industry across the United Kingdom to understand the range of perspectives from the multiple areas it regulates and help inform decision-making for the benefit of consumers and the public”.

Chair Sir Stephen Hillier will lead the delegation, which is to visit Glasgow and Edinburgh Airports, Loganair, Bristow Helicopters and Skyrora in an effort to “understand what’s being done across the sector to maintain high levels of safety, improve the passenger experience and create a more sustainable future”.

“The UK’s aviation and airspace sectors is moving to a more sustainable future, with Scotland playing its part to reduce carbon emissions with the use of new innovations and technology, ultimately to help improve the passenger experience,” Hillier said.

The airport visits are “specifically to discuss if there are learnings for other UK airports after both Glasgow and Edinburgh were ranked ‘very good’ on the service they offer passengers with reduced mobility”, the CAA announced.

The CAA’s representatives are to check in on Skyrora’s progress with its UK launch licence application and on how the CAA itself “is working to enable and prepare a vertical launch from UK soil into space soon”.

The regulator will visit Loganair “to see how it is supporting regional connectivity”, while Bristow Helicopters, which assists the UK oil and gas sector through its Offshore Helicopter Safety Leadership Group, will also receive the delegation during its trip north.
