Newcastle Williamtown Airport will soon witness the development of new $72.9 million international terminal. Anthony Albanese, prime minister of Australia was present at the ground breaking ceremony of the terminal.

Calling the airport as a great asset to the region, Albanese said: “The existing network of the airport is strong; however, it is not being used to its full potential, which is why the government has pitched $36.45 million in federal funding to help kickstart the airport renovation and provide a vote of confidence in the region.”

“The airport is working hard to attract new international and domestic destinations, and airport development is expected to play a big part in this,” Albanese added.

The redevelopment of the airport is expected to provide jobs to 4500 highly skilled professionals through the construction phase and highlight Newcastle as New South Wales second city.

Burcak Sezar, executive general manager, marketing and communication, Newcastle Airport said: “The Newcastle Airport team and Cox Architects have worked closely with stakeholders to develop a terminal that is uniquely reflective of Newcastle and the Hunter. The design incorporates the sand dunes, our beaches, and the iconic Hunter Valley in the design and colours. We want people in our airport to know they are in Newcastle Airport. We want the people of the Hunter to feel that this is our airport and use it with pride.”
