Lufthansa Cargo will permanently operate all its B777 freighter flights destined for Mexico City International Airport (MEX) from Felipe Ángeles International Airport (NLU) starting July 7, 2023. This decision comes on the backdrop of a decree issued by the Mexican government, which restricts freighter flights to Mexico City Airport due to capacity limitations.

As of July, cargo airlines will begin operating their flights to the modern Felipe Ángeles Airport, located approximately 45 km northeast of Mexico City, that was established last year on a military airfield.

Frank Nozinsky, Director of Sales & Handling for Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, Central America, and the Caribbean, Lufthansa Cargo, said: “We have successfully established import and export processes at Mexico City’s north-eastern airport as part of the necessary relocation of freighter flights. In a very short time, we have set up high-standard operations and a fast, reliable night-time truck transport service between NLU and MEX.”

Ashwin Bhat, Chief Executive, Lufthansa Cargo, expresses his satisfaction with the company’s presence at both international airports. He said: “Mexico City is a highly sought-after cargo destination. We are delighted to be able to offer seamless connections for our customers’ cargo shipments at both airports, in collaboration with Lufthansa Airlines and our warehouse partners.”

Lufthansa Cargo will offer a total of six freighter connections using Boeing 777F aircraft to and from Felipe Ángeles Airport during the current 2023 summer flight schedule.

Bookings for these flights will be available starting June 16.

Apart from the freighter connections, Lufthansa Airlines’ passenger aircraft also carry cargo as belly cargo on a regular basis to Mexico City Airport.

The airline will operate seven direct flights per week from Frankfurt, utilizing the Boeing 747-8, and three weekly connections from Munich with the Airbus A350, continue to serve Mexico City Airport.
