London City Airport to “transform” passenger security screening

By November 25, 2022 No Comments

From April next year, passengers flying out of London City Airport (LCY) will no longer have to remove laptops and liquids from hand baggage for security screening prior to boarding.

The move, LCY announced, is set to “transform” passenger experience and will make it the first airport in the UK to provide “an all-CT security scanner operation”.

The Leidos-made scanners, which can process over 500 trays an hour per lane, were “successfully trialled” this year, according to an airport statement.

The addition follows a £12 million investment in upgrading the LCY departure area for the expected 4 million passengers expected next year.

Passengers who tried the scanners “love them”, according LCY chief operating officer Alison FitzGerald.
