Icelandic airport operator Isavia and Nordic Investment Bank (NIB) on May 16 signed an agreement for a ten-year loan of €50 million to pay for construction work at Keflavík Airport.

Expansion of the eastern wing of the hub will add 23,000 square meters, or 30%,  when it is finished by 2024, Isavia said

“The aim is to reduce the carbon footprint of construction, reduce water and electricity consumption and maintain green areas and biodiversity in design and implementation,” said Sveinbjörn Indriðason, chief executive of Isavia,

“Keflavík Airport is an important hub for tourism in Iceland, and it is expected to play an important role in the country’s economy,” said André Küüsvek, director and chairman of NIB, who added that the loan deal demonstrates the importance of long-term investment in the aviation sector to support economic growth and air connections.
