Singapore Changi Airport (SIN) handled 5.12 million passengers in June, recording the first month with more than five million travelers since January 2020. The airport recorded a total of 27,500 take-offs and landings were recorded in June, with both measures around 88% of June 2019 numbers.
The airport also released its numbers for the second quarter of 2023 (Q2, 2023), which showed 14.6 million passengers passed through the airport between April and June this year, 87% of Q2 2019. Changi’s top five markets in Q2 2023 were Australia, India, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand.
Passenger travel from Northeast Asia, which includes China, Japan, Taiwan and South Korea, lagged due to the later border reopenings. However, travel from the region continued to improve, rising from around 50% of pre-pandemic levels in January to 75% by June 2023.
“Changi Airport continues to witness steady growth in passenger traffic, with passenger movements inching closer to 90% of 2019 levels as we close the second quarter,” commented Lim Ching Kiat, executive vice president for air Hub and Cargo development, Changi Airport Group. “We are pleased to have crossed the five-million mark in June with the mid-year holiday season.”
“Changi has regained more than 80% of its pre-COVID city links and looks forward to strengthening connectivity to more points in Southeast Asia and China in the second half of 2023. At the start of July, 99 airlines were operating more than 6,300 weekly scheduled flights at Changi Airport, connecting Singapore to 148 cities in 49 countries and territories,” added Kiat.
