American Airlines is adding ten non-stop flights in autumn for supporters of some of the country’s American Football university teams.

“We know seeing the action live is an unforgettable experience, and that’s why American Airlines is proud to give customers the fastest way to the 50-yard line this fall,” said Jason Reisinger, the carrier’s managing director of global network planning.

Among the routes will be a new daily service aimed at fans of State College, Pennsylvania, from Chicago, which will operate on “select dates between September and November”.

Over the period American will also operate more direct services to South Bend in Indiana from New York’s LaGuardia Airport and Reagan National Airport in Washington, DC.

The university or college season in American Football, sometimes known as ‘gridiron’, can attract attendances rivalling those seen in the sport’s winter professional tournament, which culminates with the Superbowl.
