The insolvent Frankfurt-Hahn has been sold and acquired by Swift Conjoy GmbH for an undisclosed sum. The Frankfurt-based company will continue flight operations and take on all employees which account for roughly 430 staff. The airport in the middle of the Hunsrück, which is called Frankfurt-Hahn Airport for marketing reasons, filed for bankruptcy in October 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The contract was notarised on Wednesday and is still subject to conditions, however, within the coming weeks, these conditions will be met and fulfilled promptly, the details of the contract have been agreed not to be disclosed.

Insolvency administrator Jan Markus Plathner says “Flight operations will continue until the contractual conditions are met as part of the insolvency proceedings and also by the acquirer. Due to the very good demand and the successful implementation of various measures, the operation is again economically stable in passenger traffic and air freight,” stated the Frankfurt-based lawyer.

The new investors want to expand passenger and cargo flight operations and improve the non-aero passenger services such as car parking, e-commerce, travel retail, food and beverage.

According to Tobias Steyer and Martin Mansell, managing directors of Swift Conjoy GmbH, they aim to “continue passenger and cargo flight operations at Hahn and expand them extensively. This also includes investments and the creation of new jobs in the region.”

“Our vision is to make Frankfurt-Hahn Airport a regional, short and medium-haul passenger airport and major international logistics hub, with a strong local, corporate and social agenda.” says Martin Mansell.

Frankfurt-Hahn was once a former US military airport that has a rare night flight permit, this will provide plenty of job creation in the area. With plans to increase cargo and passenger numbers, personnel are needed for ground handling services, duty-free and its own fire brigade service.

SWIFT CONJOY GmbH is a consortium of Conjoy Investment Partners, headquartered in the UK, and the multi-family office of SWIFT Holding (SWIFT Group), headquartered in Frankfurt. The merger will form an investment consortium at Frankfurt-Hahn Airport.
