IndiGo grounded another A320 neo aircraft yesterday following an incident with its Pratt & Whitney. The aircraft on the Bengaluru-New Delhi morning flight was understood to have been grounded after metal chip particles were detected in the jet’s engine oil.
IndiGo has now cancelled close to 500 flights this month due to the engine problems.
Aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) ordered last week for 11 A320neos – eight from IndiGo and three from GoAir – fitted with P&W1100 engines beyond ESN 450 series due to recurring problems, including mid-air shutdowns.
Robert F. Ludech, President, Pratt Whitney, commercial engines said that the company was “disappointed” with the Indian regulator’s decision but stressed that the fleet will be back in the air by the end of April.
