A subcontractor of precision machined components, BG Engineering, based in Derbyshire, UK, has secured AS9100 accreditation, the international management system standard for the Aircraft, Space and Defence (AS&D) industry.

The achievement follows a rigorous external audit of the company’s QMS (Quality Management System) by Lloyds Register of Quality Assurance’s (LRQA) external board to ensure the company adheres to the strict procedures within the scope of the standard.

Antony Holmes, Managing Director of BG Engineering, said: “This is a very exciting development and a major milestone in the company’s history, which will also help to shape our future. We have been working to secure this accreditation for almost 12 months and the 100% rating we achieved is testament to the hard work and dedication of our team.”

Antony adds: “Having AS9100 will open up whole new markets for us as it provides validation of BG’s expertise and professionalism, which is clearly demonstrated to customers across all our market sectors. We will be looking to develop business opportunities and partnerships with the aerospace and defence supply chain where they require the specialist machining capabilities that we provide.”

BG Engineering’s commitment to securing AS9100 accreditation included bringing in Production Engineer, Chris Hey and working with an external consultant, Mark Sutcliffe. The company involved all of its production team in the development of its processes, documentation and business understanding in order to meet the requirements.
