On three occasions over the weekend, United Airlines aircraft were forced to make emergency landings leaving hundreds of passengers.
A 757 aircraft travelling from Newark Liberty International Airport to Berlin was forced to make an emergency landing on Saturday when a tyre burst and the debris was sucked into an engine. On Sunday, another 757 bound for Seattle had to return to Newark after smoke was reported in the cockpit, while Flight 1124 bound for Boston had to return to Houston a few hours later because of engine problems.

The airline has initiated a full review into operations.
